Labels For Education!
  • SECC Collects Labels For Education
SECC collects "Box Tops for Education" and "Campbell's Soup Labels".  Be sure to check for the "Box Tops for Education" on all types of packaging, including, but not limited to, food and paper goods.  "Campbell's Soup Labels" can be found on a variety of products as well.  All you need to do is cut them out, collect them, and send them in to your child's teacher periodically.  It may not seem like much to you, but we can turn these into much needed material for use in our classrooms.  This year all funds are going toward supplying new resources for our P.E. program.  A great big "Thank You!" to everyone who sent box tops and labels this year.  Spread the word and keep sending those labels in!!

Special Request
  • Extra Change of Clothes for School
Parents please send an extra change of clothes, including socks and underwear, in a Ziploc bag to school with your child to be kept in his or her locker.  Spills and accidents of many kinds often soil clothes worn to school making it necessary to change during the day.  The nurses office has a limited supply of extras on hand that will not last long.  Please send these supplies at your earliest convenience.

If you, or your family and friends, have extra clothes that children have outgrown laying around, please bag them up and bring them to the office for donation to Nurse Susan's spare closet.  We would also accept donations to the closet from any groups or organizations that you may be part of who are looking for a project.  We typically need sizes 4, 6, 8, and occasionally 10/12, with the majority needing a 6/8.

If your child has an incident at school and must borrow clothes from Nurse Susan's closet, the soiled clothes will be sent home in a plastic sack. Please launder the borrowed clothes and return them to the office or your child's teacher as soon as possible.

    Thank you for your cooperation!
Teacher Wish Lists!
  • Teacher Wish Lists!
Teachers at SECC are creating wish lists for items that would be helpful in their classrooms.  These are things that they normally have to purchase out of their own pocket.  Visit http://www.teacherlists.com/search/results/school/52763 if you would like to help and see just how easy it is.  SECC teachers thank you in advance for your help!

School Hours and Policies
  • SECC School Hours
The front doors open at 7:45 a.m. when school staff reports for duty.  Please do not drop your child off before that time.  Your child should stay in your vehicle until the doors are open to guarantee his/her safety. Upon arrival they may enter and go to the cafeteria for breakfast or to their neighborhood if they enjoyed breakfast at home. Please help insure that your child is here at 7:45 if eating breakfast, and no later than 8:05 if eating at home.  Classes for all students begin promptly at 8:15.  The first 30 minutes to hour of the school day is often filled with some of the most valuable learning time!

AM Pre-K classes dismiss at 11:00.
PM Pre-K classes may enter the building at 11:30 if they are eating lunch at school.  Those who eat at home should enter at 11:45.  PM Pre-K classes will begin promptly at 12:00. Again, please make sure your child doesn't miss out on valuable learning time by arriving on time!

Afternoon Pre-K and K dismissal time is 2:45 for all students.  Parents of car riders, please stay in your vehicle and pull by the curb where your child will be loaded for you.  If you have an emergency and must pick your child up quickly, please park near the ball fields east of the school and walk over to SECC in order to avoid congestion and accidents in the front parking lot. Walk up to the cone on the sidewalk near the front door with your car sign and wait for your child there,  Your child will be called as soon as there is a break in the car line.

    Thank you for your cooperation!
  • Morning Drop Off Policy
Here at SECC we understand that you are leaving your most precious treasures with us every day and that can be very difficult for many parents.  Understanding this, we want you to feel welcome to park and walk your child in to his/her neighborhood the first week and a half of school, August 13-22.  Please take this time to help you and your child become familiar with our school and the routine of walking in and going to the cafeteria and/or classroom neighborhood, where the children gather before going to their classrooms.  We feel this time will help our students to become comfortable with our routines and finding their way to their neighborhoods.  As part of our job at SECC is to develop independence in our students, beginning August 25th we will require you to stay in your vehicle and join the other cars in the line dropping children off at the curb.  We will have school personnel curbside to greet your child and direct them inside to their appropriate destination.  Difficult as this may be for some, this is an important part of your child's education.  Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
  • Change of Transportation Policy
Our number one responsibility here at SECC is to keep your child safe.  To help insure the safety of all our students the Shawnee Board of Education adopted the following policy regarding changing your child's daily transportation.  At enrollment you will make arrangements regarding how your child is to go home each day, whether it be bus, daycare van or car rider.  Any time you need to change how your child is to go home, whether for the day or permanently, you must come in the office and make those arrangements in person.  We can no longer make transportation changes over the phone or with a handwritten note as we cannot verify the authority of the caller or person writing the note as the person allowed to have access to the child.  This policy will help to safeguard your child against possibly being picked up by a non-custodial parent/relative or other person not authorized to do so.  You may, at enrollment or any time, pick up multiple official car tags for family or friends to authorize them to pick up your child.  All transportation changes must be made, in person, by 2:00 to ensure your child's teacher is notified of the change.
